This course aims to help students transition from elementary English to intermediate English. Students will start to manage most situations related to living and travelling, to describe or express their opinion on topics of personal interest such as experiences, ambitions, opinions, reasons, and plans. At the end of the course, students will be able to talk at some length on everyday topics, pick up main ideas of short structure texts and write simple texts including social emails, descriptions and recounts, some of which are paragraphed.

By the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Gain new vocabulary and grammar structure with a strong focus on speaking and listening, enabling students to maintain longer conversations and express their own opinions
  • Read and understand information on familiar topics
  • Write simple formal letters and text on familiar matters
  • Accurately use time tense and/or expressions to make the timing and sequence of events clear.

To begin studying at Scots English College, you need to:

  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Complete a placement test to assess your current level of language proficiency or provide previous evidence of English proficiency, for example, a certificate from another ELICOS provider, an IELTS, TOEIC or TOEFL certificate (or equivalent)

Please be aware that the English language skills level required by Scots English College may be different from the level of skills required for your student visa application. Your progress through the levels is based on your performance.
